Dangers of Glyphosate Dr. Fadwa, Pharm.D., 26 September 202219 May 2024 Glyphosate is a synthetic amino acid found in herbicides like Roundup, and it causes great harm to people as well. Frighteningly, it is found in most of our food and it cannot be washed off or cooked off. Since the introduction of glyphosate in our food, we’ve seen a 400% increase in children going to the emergency room for food allergies, especially with the introduction of genetically modified foods (often referred to as GMOs). GMOs are crops that are modified to withstand the harsh chemicals used in modern agricultural practices, so we effectively get poisoned twice: once from genetic modification, and once from glyphosate. According to scientist Dr. Anthony Samsel, glyphosate “destroys our biology at the cellular level one molecule at a time through disruption of proteins and signaling.” So How does it work? Because Glyphosate is an antimicrobial agent, it eliminates the beneficial bacteria in our gut and allows the pathogenic bacteria to proliferate. Even though we make neurotransmitters in our brains, we also make them in our gut. When the pathogenic bacteria outweigh the beneficial ones, we compromise serotonin and melatonin, and we increase inflammation and illness in the brain, which can lead to autism. Be careful — the five childhood vaccines (like MMR) even have glyphosate in them! Glyphosate is also a chelating agent, which means it binds to nutrients in our body and won’t release them to do the healthy work they were meant to. It also causes DNA mutations, so it can result in cancers. Furthermore, the EPA has now defined glyphosate as a “reproductive affecter,” meaning it manipulates the endocrine and reproductive systems, including the thyroid, liver, kidneys, and sperm; it is found in breast milk as well. What can you do? First, help your body heal at the cellular level by getting on a Nrf2 activator, like Protandim. Second, research is always a good place to start, and the website momsacrossamerica.org has a wealth of information for you on GMOs, glyphosate, pesticides, and other environmental harms. It’s also a good idea to buy organic produce when you can, although it is important to note that these foods will not always be completely free of glyphosate. It’s becoming more important than ever to learn to read food labels and understand just what you’re putting into your body. Look for a newer marking on packages for “regenerative organic certified,” which indicates the use of holistic, or traditional, farming. It’s even better to grow your own food, purchase produce and meats at your local farmer’s market, or partner directly with a local farmer who can supply your needs. Finally, try to relax. The good news is that once you elimante glphosate from your diet, your body easily detoxifies itself over the course of one week. By then, 70% of the glyphosate will clear your body through urination. Image by Erich Westendarp from Pixabay Blog
